Meet Natasha
Originally from Taiwan, I’m now based in Boston, Massachusetts, after years of living and studying across places like London, Florence, Rome, Istanbul, and Trondheim.
I hold a PhD in Medieval and Renaissance art, and I currently work as a museum curator. But I’ve always been an artist at heart—ever since I was a kid sketching manga characters in the margins of my math homework.
Over the years, my path took me through professional dance, music, and historical research. While I never left the world of visual culture, there was a long stretch where I stopped creating my own art.
That changed in 2020. The quiet and uncertainty of the pandemic nudged me back into drawing, and I haven’t stopped since. I started making comics, illustrations for clients, and art for home decor—often squeezing it in during museum work, new motherhood, and the in-between moments of daily life.
Today, I’m a freelance illustrator and small business owner. My art is inspired by my travels, expat life, and a love for cozy, cultural moments. I draw from Nordic concepts like Hygge, Lagom, and Koselig—the warmth, balance, and contentment found in simple pleasures.
My work blends historical curiosity with modern joy: from Fika-inspired teapots full of folk-art florals, to Portuguese tiles, French cafés, and everything in between. I create cheerful, colorful designs that bring a cozy, global touch to everyday life—art that feels like home, wherever you are.
When I’m not drawing, you’ll find me spending time with my family, curating exhibitions, or salsa dancing—always on the lookout for new inspiration.
If you would like to work with me, please send me a message! I am sharing my personal projects and works on my Instagram @natashamay_design
